Why “Liberty or Cush”

Honoring service, sacrifice, patriotism, and community.

Liberty or Cush was founded to honor the life, service, and legacy of the owner's late husband, a United States Marine Corps veteran. The business represents a commitment to the values he lived by — service, sacrifice, patriotism, and community.

The name combines the American ideal of liberty with the owner's family name, Cushman, creating a brand that is both personal and memorable. It reflects a belief that freedom is never taken for granted and that the sacrifices made by members of our Armed Forces, veterans, first responders, and their families deserve lasting appreciation.

Liberty or Cush is intended to be more than a coffee shop. It is designed to be a place where customers feel welcomed, veterans feel honored, where service is valued, and where the community can proudly support a locally owned Alaska business that gives back.

As part of our commitment to those who serve, Liberty or Cush will:

Our Mission

The mission of Liberty or Cush extends beyond serving exceptional coffee. The business exists to honor a veteran's legacy and demonstrate that small businesses can make a meaningful difference by supporting those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.
